Cher
The Cher is a river in France. It originates in the Massif Central and flows into the Loire at Villandry. The main tributaries are the Tardes, the Aumance, the Yèvre, and the Sauldre. The Canal de Berry connects to the Cher and provides further connection to the west.
The Cher was canalized between 1829 and 1841 to create a connection from the Canal de Berry to the Loire. At that time, the river was navigable for 151 kilometers. When the connection was no longer used after the closure of the Canal de Berry in the 1950s, the river also lost its transport by water.
Around 1990, 60 kilometers of the river were restored and recreational boating was once again possible.
