The Amertak is a waterway located west of Geertruidenberg in the Dutch province of North Brabant. This canal connection links the Amer to the Wilhelminakanaal and, a little further on, to the Markkanaal. The Amertak Bridge crosses the canal, which is operated from the Tilburg control center.
The canal is classified as CEMT Class Va, and the maximum allowable dimensions for shipping are: 110.00 meters long, 11.50 meters wide, and a maximum depth of 3.00 meters.
The canal was opened on July 21, 1993. Its purpose is to divert shipping traffic away from the Donge river at Geertruidenberg and Raamsdonkveer. The bends and bridges in the Donge river made it difficult to navigate with large ships.
